Made in USA Measuring Spoons

I’m one of those people who replaces something only when I absolutely have to. Keeping that in mind those who know me would not be surprised to hear that I have owned the same set of measuring spoons for the past 27 years. So I was devastated when one of the measuring spoons snapped in half when I tried to bend the thin metal back into place. Talk about bad luck since it’s not like you can just replace the one measuring spoon you need if one breaks or goes missing; instead you have to buy a new complete set of measuring spoons.

99% of the measuring spoons sold in the big box stores and online are now made in China. Disappointed I decided that if I couldn’t find a set of measuring spoons made in the USA I would just make due with the set I had without the broken teaspoon. While I don’t need to use measuring spoons everyday; every time a recipe called for a teaspoon of this or a teaspoon of that I wished I hadn’t thrown away the broken measuring spoon because the small spoon in my utensil drawer is not a substitute for an actual teaspoon.

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

In a moment of desperation I caved and bought a cheap plastic set of imported measuring spoons from Walmart. That one white plastic teaspoon stood out like a sore thumb in my utensil drawer the lettering on it slowing fading until it was unreadable even though I hand wash all my utensils and dishes.

I resolved to find a set of measuring spoons that were not only made in the USA and a Google search yielded a couple of results but I wasn’t impressed enough with them to pull the trigger and buy the plastic set that was under $10 (the measurements were to hard to read) or the metal set that was over $80 (they didn’t look any better than my 27 year old set).

First Impressions

The measuring spoons arrived in a gift box and wrapped in tissue paper. Even the cord that holds the measuring spoons together is made with American leather. The hammered pewter finish on the measuring spoons is absolutely beautiful. In comparison to the plain old tin ones I had been using and the cheap plastic set I also purchased, these actually make me feel like a professional baker and chef. They are heavy duty and I have no doubt that I won’t ever have to bend any of these back into shape after using or washing them. The black detailing around the edges is stunning and each measuring spoon is clearly marked in large readable black font so there is no second guessing between 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon anymore.

It Was Worth the Wait

First, I wanted measuring spoons that were made in the USA. Second, I wanted measuring spoons that were not plastic easy to read. Lastly, I wanted measuring spoons that I knew were not made with any toxic metals.
